BBMB Zinc Scam-Punjab cadre chief engineer amongst three officers sent on leave

The management of Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) has cancelled the transfer orders of Er CP Singh, Punjab cadre chief engineer posted at Bhakra Dam, Nangal and asked him to proceed on leave after a ‘Zinc Scam’ rocked the board.
Earlier, the management has transferred chief engineer CP Singh from Bhakra Dam Nangal to BSL in Himachal Pradesh Sundernagar on February 4,2025 after a scam of missing of 24 number items of Zinc Mixed with brass old and used in the Disposal Sub-Division, BBMB, Nangal Township rocked the BBMB and committee is formed to enquire the whole scam. It is alleged that the value of missing stock is worth around a crore.
On January 30,2025, the incident came to light after the Zinc blocks from the workshop were not transported to the disposal yard. As per available information, the alleged theft was done after manipulating the CCTVs, weighing machines at the board store.
In less than 48 hours, revised orders are issued by BBMB cancelling CP Singh transfer and ask him to proceed on leave. The orders are “Er CP Singh , chief engineer Bhakra Dam, BBMB, Nangal , Er Anil Dhawan, SE, Nangal Mechanical Circle, BBMB, Nangal & Er Paramvir Singh Sekhon, Executive Engineer , Bhakra Mechanical Division BBMB, Nangal will mandatorily proceed on leave, till the completion of enquiry.”

Yesterday, on February, 5,2025, a day after CP Singh transfer to Sundernagar, the chairman BBMB had said that ” chief engineer CP Singh has been transferred to Himachal Pradesh to ensure that no interference and smooth probe. He will return after the probe is done.” But within few hours his transfer orders are cancelled and sent on leave.
In this scam Vikas, a JE , Manjeet a store keeper were already suspended by the chief engineer BBMB Nangal, CP Singh. He had also recommended the suspension of SDO to the higher authorities, after which the management suspended Satinder Singh a SDO on the recommendation of CP Singh. The JE and storekeeper are Haryana cadre employees where as the SDO is a Punjab cadre officer of the irrigation department.
