“Beat Plastic Pollution”-IEI (India) Punjab & Chandigarh celebrates World Environment Day

“World Environment Day” was celebrated by the Institution of Engineers (India), Punjab & Chandigarh State Centre on 7th June, 2025 in the premises of the Engineers Bhawan, Madhya Marg, Sector 19-A, Chandigarh.

The theme for World Environment Day 2025 is “Beat Plastic Pollution”.

World Environment Day 2025 calls for collective action to tackle plastic pollution.” Ridding the planet of plastic pollution is an important contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, including those on climate action, sustainable production and consumption, protection of seas and oceans and repairing ecosystems and retaining biodiversity.”

Er. Gursharan Dass Garg, Senior Environmental Engineer, Punjab Pollution Control Board was the “Chief Guest. Dr. Manbeer Kaur, HoD, Deptt. of Life Sciences, B.A.M. Khalsa College, Garhshankar (Punjab) was the Guest of Honour. Er. S.S. Mundi FIE, Imm. Past Vice-President IEI and Prof. (Dr.) T.S. Kamal, Former Vice-President IEI also graced the occasion with their presence.

Dr. Baljit Singh Khehra, Chairman, Punjab & Chandigarh State Centre of the Institution of Engineers (India) welcomed the members and distinguished Guests.

Key Speakers namely Dr. Reena Chadha, General Manager, Indian Pollution Control Association and Shivani Thakur, Assistant Research Officer, Directorate of Environment & Climate Change delivered keynote addresses on the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution”.

“Chief Guest” and “Guest of Honour” addressed the gathering with their motivational views about the theme.

About 100 Engineers, Guests, Faculty Members and Students attended the function.
