Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal Pay Tribute to Shaheed Udham Singh

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and National Convener of Aam Aadmi Party Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday paid floral tributes to Shaheed Udham Singh at Sunam in a state level function to commemorate his 86th martyrdom day and laid foundation stone of development projects worth around Rs 85 crore to the native town of martyr.
Paying rich tributes to Shaheed Udham Singh at Udham Singh Samark in the local stadium, the Chief Minister and Arvind Kejriwal laid wreaths at the memorial to pay homage to the martyr. They said that this true son of soil had in a heroic act exhibited exemplary courage by killing Michael O’ Dwyer, the prime perpetrator of Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Both the leaders said that the supreme sacrifice made by this son of the soil at the altar of national freedom struggle helped the country to overthrow the yoke of British Imperialism. They also said that the supreme sacrifice made by legendary martyr Shaheed Udham Singh will always inspire the youth for selfless service to the nation.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister and Arvind Kejriwal also gave a bonanza of about Rs 85 crore to the residents of Shaheed Udham Singh Wala in form of various development projects. These include Upgradation of Tehsil Complex at a cost Rs 15.32 crore, which will be completed within one year. The new complex will house the SDM Office, Sub-Registrar Office, Tehsildar Office, Treasury Office, Food Supply Office, State Tax Office, Cooperative Society Office, and other departments.
Similarly, they laid the foundation stone of a new bus stand being constructed in Sunam at a cost of Rs 13.64 crore. This project will also be completed within one year and the bus stand will also include a shopping complex along with bus counters. Likewise, both the leaders also laid the foundation stone of a new government girls’ senior secondary school being built at a cost of Rs 8.20 crore, which will also be completed within nine months.
To promote sports in Sunam, they also laid an indoor sports complex will be constructed in Sunam at a cost of Rs 18.95 crore. The complex will have facilities for synthetic track, badminton, boxing, judo, wrestling, basketball, volleyball, and taekwondo. Both the leaders also laid the foundation of development work at Shaheed Udham Singh Government College, including Astro Turf hockey ground, Lecture hall, Library, Administration block and others.
The total cost of this ambitious project is Rs 20.78 crore and will be completed within one year. The Chief Minister and Arvind Kejriwal also laid the foundation stone of an additional Rs 8.49 crore is being spent on improving basic infrastructure in Sunam city.
