Bhakra Beas Management Board hosts Bhakra Dam Outreach Programme as part of “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” Celebration

Nand Lal Sharma, Chairman, BBMB, graced the Bhakra Outreach programme organized by the Department of Water Resources, Ministry of Jal Shakti, in collaboration with National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA), Central Water Commission (CWC) and the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) on 07.08.23 at Bhakra Dam. Organized under the auspices of “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav,” this remarkable event was aimed to not only promote dam tourism but also raise awareness about the importance of effective water resource management.
The Bhakra Dam, a paragon of India’s progress, was identified as one of the 24 iconic dam sites across the nation as part of this initiative. This iconic structure, serving as a testament to India’s engineering prowess and dedication towards progress, encapsulates the spirit of the nation’s aspirations.
Chairman, BBMB, while addressing the gathering, lauding the visionary approach of the Ministry of Jal Shakti. He extended his heartfelt appreciation towards the dedicated efforts of the officers from NDSA, CWC and BBMB, commending their dedication in organizing such a momentous event. In his address, Nand Lal Sharma emphasized the national significance of Bhakra Dam and encouraged everyone to cherish this invaluable treasure. He applauded the role played by Bhakra Dam in controlling the flood waters of Satluj during incessant rains from 9th to 12th July, 2023. He also commended the exceptional performance of the Bhakra power house in July, 2023 which not only surpassed previous records of daily power generation but also shattered the record of maximum instantaneous power generation. He motivated BBMB employees to continue their efforts towards progress, underlining his commitment to steer BBMB towards new horizons through his insightful ideas and visionary leadership.
As part of the event, a painting competition on the theme “SAVE WATER” was held on 2nd August 2023, followed by an essay writing competition on “DAMS AND ITS USES” on 3rd August 2023, at the BBMB DAV Public School in Nangal. The multifaceted event also featured an “Awareness Programme on Improved Water Resource Management” on 7th August 2023, which garnered the presence of esteemed dignitaries including R.P.S Verma, Director/NDSA; Piyush Ranjan, Director/CWC; Bhupendra Chaudhary, ASO, Department of Water Resources, Ministry of Jal Shakti, public representatives from various villages, eminent residents of Nangal & its surrounding villages.
Director/NDSA explained the purpose behind the event and provided insights into the vision driving this initiative. Er. C.P. Singh, Chief Engineer/Bhakra Dam, delivered a presentation on the far-reaching benefits of Bhakra Dam and its contribution towards progress of the region and country as a whole.
The event witnessed the active participation of local Panchayat Presidents who shared their sentiments about Bhakra’s substantial contribution to their communities. Representatives from Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and various stakeholders also lent their valuable perspectives. A melange of cultural activities further enlivened the proceedings, culminating in the felicitation of winners from diverse competitions and activities.
