Big jolt to shiromani akali dal; close aide of Badal’s resigns

In a surprise move, former bureaucrat and senior leader of Shiromani Akali Dal and special member of Badal family Darbara Singh Guru today resigned from the party. This is a big blow to the Akali Dal in Halqa Bhadaur.
It may be recalled that Darbara Singh Guru (IAS Retired) had been working as the Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal during the Akali government. He had contested from Bhadaur constituency in Barnala district during the 2012 assembly elections, but lost to Mohammad Sadiq of the Congress party. He has a good base by contesting in Bhadaur constituency.
Now Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi is contesting from Bhadaur constituency on behalf of the Congress party, which is likely to be of great benefit to him if Darbara Singh Guru joins the Congress party. He had also contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Fatehgarh Sahib constituency.
