Bikramjit Singh Brar becomes most decorated Police Officer of Punjab; Retd.IPS officer still holds India’s decorated officer record

Today, ministry of home affairs (MHA) has announced the Gallantry and Service Medals on the occasion of the Independence Day, 2024.
Punjab Police braveheart officer Bikramjit Singh Brar, PPS has once again been awarded 1st BAR TO GM (Gallantry Medal).
As per available information, with today’s Gallantry award, Bikramjit Singh Brar has become the most decorated Police officer as he has been awarded five times with President Medal for Gallantry /President Gallantry medal besides state awards, DGP awards on many occasions.
Delhi Police’s DCP (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav had been awarded the 11th President’s medal for Gallantry and CRPF officer Prakash Ranjan Mishra had been decorated with a gallantry medal for record 8 times, making him the highest recipient of bravery medals among the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).
Bikramjit Singh Brar becomes most decorated Police Officer of Punjab; Retd.IPS officer still holds India’s decorated officer record. Brar breaks the record of former DGP Mohammad Mustafa who had been awarded with President’s Medal for Gallantry on four occasions. But Mustafa also holds the record as he is the only direct IPS officer of the country who had been awarded with President Medal for Gallantry /President Gallantry Medal of four occasions.
Five President Medal for Gallantry /President Gallantry medal awarded to Bikramjit Singh Brar, PPS, Deputy Superintendent of Police
- First Gallantry medal in the Year 2011 on Independence Day:- Bikramjit Singh Brar, PPS, DSP received his first gallantry medal in 2011 for his role in the arrest of members of the dreaded gangster Rajeev Raja Gang in live encounter at Samrala Bus Stand in Year 2010. In this police action, one gangster was injured and two police officials sustained injuries. Both the Police officials also received the Gallantry medal in this police action.
- Second Gallantry medal in the Year 2020 on Republic Day:- He was awarded with the second Gallantry medal in the Year 2020 w.r.t neutralization of dreaded gangsters Vicky Gounder, Prema Lahoria and Sawinder Singh in a police action at Ganganagar, Rajasthan in Year 2018. They were involved in the famous Nabha Jail Break case of 2016. He led this successful police action. Two police officials were also injured.
- Third Gallantry medal in the Year 2021 on Independence Day:- He bagged his third Gallantry medal for his vital role in bringing down a dreaded gangster Ankit Bhadu on February 7, 2019, at a flat in Peermuchala Zirakpur in a police action. The gangster was wanted in several criminal cases in Punjab, Delhi, Rajasthan and Haryana. A man and his two minor daughters that the gangster had taken as a hostage were also rescued. In this police action, two police officials were injured.
- Fourth Gallantry Medal in the Year 2024 on Republic Day:- He has been conferred with 4th Gallantry Medal w.r.t neutralizing two shooters Manpreet Singh @ Manu Kussa and Jagroop Singh @ Rupa after a heavy exchange of fire at Village Bhakna Kalan, Distt. Amristar Rural on 20- 07-2022. They both were involved in killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. In this police action, he led the operation from the front and entered the secluded farm house in which both the gangsters were firing from AK 47 rifle and foreign made semi automatic pistols hiding themselves in a mumty on terrace. It was a live encounter. In the ensuing exchange of heavy fire, One camera man of ABP Sanjh was injured along with four police officials.
5. Fifth Gallantry Medal in the year 2024 on Independence Day:- DSP Bikramjit Singh Brar, PPS received his 5th Gallantry Medal w.r.t neutralizing notorious gangster Tejinder Singh @ Teja along with his two associates Amanpreet @ Peeta Dhesi and Vijay @ Mani Rahon in a police action at New Fatehgarh Sahib Market, Bassi Pathana on 22-02- 2023. The accused Tejinder Singh @ Teja was involved in 38 heinous criminal cases and was convicted in 11 cases in the State of Punjab and wanted in the murder of Punjab Police constable Kuldeep Singh in Jan-2023. In this police action, two police officials were injured.
