BJP Holds Protest and Burns Effigy of Atishi Marlena Over ‘Derogatory’ Remarks on Guru Sahib
Bahadurjeet Singh/royalpatiala.in News/ Rupnagar,January 9,2026 The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Rupnagar district, under the leadership of District President Ajayvir Singh Lalpura, held a strong protest and burnt the effigy of senior Aam Aadmi Party leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi Marlena. The protest was organised against her alleged insensitive and derogatory remarks made in the Delhi Assembly during discussions related to the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur ji.
Addressing the protest, Ajayvir Singh Lalpura said that Punjabis and the Sikh community, not only in Punjab but across India and abroad, are deeply hurt by Atishi Marlena’s statement. He termed the remarks highly condemnable and said that making such comments while discussing the martyrdom anniversary of Guru Sahib is completely unacceptable. He asserted that political differences cannot justify disrespect towards Sikh Gurus.
Lalpura alleged that the leadership of the Aam Aadmi Party has consistently displayed an anti-Sikh mindset. He further said that Arvind Kejriwal’s silence on the issue exposes his approach towards Sikh sentiments. He recalled that during Kejriwal’s tenure as Chief Minister, no Sikh was inducted into the Delhi Cabinet, nor were serious steps taken regarding the 1984 anti-Sikh riot cases or the rehabilitation of victims.

BJP leaders demanded that if Arvind Kejriwal has any respect for Sikh Gurus, he should immediately remove Atishi Marlena from the post of Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly and expel her from the Aam Aadmi Party.
During the protest, BJP leaders and workers raised strong slogans against Atishi Marlena and the Aam Aadmi Party, reiterating that the BJP will continue its struggle at every level to protect Sikh honour and Guru traditions.
