Today, PCS officer of 2012 batch Rajat Oberoi assumes charge as MC Commissioner Patiala. He replaces Aditya Dachalwal IAS officer who has been transferred to Ludhiana and posted as MC Commissioner, Ludhiana. Before joining as MC Commissioner, Patiala he was posted as additional chief administrator, Amritsar Development Authority, Amritsar.

The new incumbent Rajat Oberoi is a doctor and has done post graduation (MD). He belongs to Kapurthala district and celebrates his birthday on July 6. He is going to retire on July 31,2025.  He is also PCS Officers’ Association president

The newly appointed MC Commissioner Rajat Oberoi has lots of challenges, tough road , bumpy ride ahead as Royal City has multiple civic problems and the election for the civic body is around the corner.

The biggest challenge before the new commissioner is to shift diaries from the interior parts of the city to the new locations allocated by the government. The city is facing frequent sewerage blockage as unauthorised dairy units are not being shifted out the city area, due to the political interference. As per reports only a few number of diaries are there in the city and they are not shifting their base at the new location, causing lacs of city residents to suffer.

Another major issue of the city is the construction of illegal buildings in the municipal limits. By doing illegal construction the residents are evading the liable government taxes.

Another prime challenge for the new MC Commissioner is the dilapidated condition of roads across the city. After the monsoon, the condition of the roads has turned bad to worse. Royal city residents have been experiencing bumpy rides and are also exposed to pollution caused by dust, courtesy of roads, that were dug up nearly around two years ago for laying a canal-based drinking water supply line. With the winter season is approaching, the construction of roads become mandatory.

Besides rampant corruption in the corporation, illegal encroachments, non working of street lights, timely completion of pending development projects, implementation of vendor policy, making vendor zones, parking area etc another issues which demands his immediate attention.
