Amid rising diplomatic tensions between India and Canada following the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, Jagmeet Singh, leader of Canada’s New Democratic Party (NDP) and former ally of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said “Modi’s government is engaging in organized crime to murder, extort and harm Canadians on Canadian soil. Canadian citizens must be protected, our sovereignty respected and our democracy safeguarded”. Jagmeet made these strong remarks on Monday in his statement posted on his official X account.

In his statement, Singh expressed support for the recent expulsion of Indian diplomats, calling for further action. “We support today’s decision to expel India’s diplomats and we’re calling on the Government of Canada yet again to put diplomatic sanctions against India in place, ban the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) network in Canada, and commit to pursuing the most severe consequences for anyone found to have participated in organised criminal activity on Canadian soil,” Jagmeet Singh said.

RCMP Deputy Commissioner of Federal Policing made attempt to meet with the Indian law-enforcement counterparts to discuss violent, extremist that occurred in Canada and India & present evidence pertaining to agents of the Govt of India’s involvement in serious criminal activity here in Canada. Unfortunately, these attempts were unsuccessful. Therefore, Deputy Commissioner met with officials of the Govt of India, alongside the National Security & Intelligence Advisor and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs over the weekend. Through our National Task Force and other investigative efforts, the RCMP has obtained evidence that demonstrates four very serious issues – 1) violence, extremist impact in both countries, 2) links tying agents of the Govt of India to homicides & violent acts, 3) the use of organised crime to creat perception of unsafe environment targeting the South Asian community in Canada, 4) interference in democratic processes.”
