Scion of Royal City Patiala, former Punjab chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Sunday announced that he would contest the 2022 state assembly elections from Patiala,  which is his family bastion.

As per sources Capt Amarinder Singh said he won’t run away from contesting an election. Earlier in the day, Singh had told a TV channel in an interview that he won’t leave Patiala.

Capt Amarainder Singh is representing the Patiala / Patiala (urban)  constituency four times, while his better half Preneet Kaur is a member of parliament from Patiala . The former Chief Minister’s father Maharaja Yadavinder Singh was the last Maharaja of the princely state of Patiala.

Capt Amarinder Singh had resigned as the Punjab chief minister in September following a dispute with his mother party, Congress .

After he left the Indian National Congress, the former CM had floated his own political party, Punjab Lok Congress, earlier this month and vowed to contest all 117 assembly seats in the state, with seat sharing with BJP in the upcoming 2022 assembly elections.

Even, Punjab BJP president Ashwani Sharma in a TV interview had said that “the possibility of an alliance with Captain Amarinder Singh, is very much possible. He said Captain sahib has an appeal in the urban areas and he has expressed his willingness to work on an alliance with the BJP.’’
