What is 2D Cardiac ECHO?

This is a safe and painless procedure that uses a transducer (a small, microphone-type device) to send high frequency sound waves to the heart.  It is a non-invasive heart investigation that creates images of the sections of the heart using sound vibrations. It presents the various parts of the heart as in pictures so that it becomes easy to check if there is any damage or blockages, and blood flow rate.

What does the 2D Echo test detect?

Echocardiography, or 2D Echo is majorly done to detect :

  • Any underlying heart diseases or abnormalities
  • Keep a check on the heart valve for its functioning
  • Congenital heart diseases and blood clots or tumours
