Central Jail superintendent, officials, inmates booked in connection with drug smuggling activities in jail premises

Under the directions of Chief Minister, Punjab Bhagwant Mann & guidance of Director General of Police, Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, IPS regarding a drive against Drugs “Yudh Nasheya Virudh” & to weed out Black Sheeps in the system, an First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against several jail officers and inmates of Central Jail Hoshiarpur following an enquiry into an organized drug smuggling operation within the prison. The report received from Inspector General of Police, Prisons has revealed that certain jail officers, in collaboration with inmates, were involved in facilitating the drug smuggler lodged inside Hoshiarpur Central Jail for carrying out drug trafficking.

The FIR has been registered against Jail Superintendent & 4 other jail officials and 7 inmates of Hoshiarpur Central Jail. The enquiry indicates that the inmates were involved in drug smuggling, which was facilitated by the corrupt actions of jail officials, who are accused of using their positions to allow the flow of illegal narcotics, severely undermining the security and integrity of the correctional facility.
FIR registered at PS/ANTF, SAS Nagar is under sections 21,22,29,59 (2),NDPS Act with charges including drug trafficking, corruption and criminal conspiracy. The investigation is on and further arrests and actions are anticipated as authorities continue to uncover the full extent of the smuggling nexus.

Meanwhile a search was carried out simultaneously at 10 different places today morning.
