Central University of Punjab in association with MY NEP launched Punjabi Version of NEP-2020

Central University of Punjab in association with MY NEP organised Inaugural Ceremony to launch the Punjabi Version of National Education Policy-2020. The event was conducted under the patronage of CUPB Vice Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari. The Chief Guest of this Inaugural Ceremony was Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Punjab University, Chandigarh. The Keynote Speaker and Distinguished Speaker of this programme were Prof. Kuldip C. Agnihotri, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Himachal Pradesh, and  K.N. Raghunandan, Vidya Bharti, Ucha Shiksha Sansthan respectively.  Vikrant Khandelwal, Social Activist and Thinker graced this event as Guest of Honour. Faculty, research scholars, and students from different institutions attended in this programme through online mode.

At the start, Prof. R.K. Wusirika, Programme Convener & Dean In-charge Academics welcomed the guests and put a light on programme theme. In his presidential address, Prof. Tiwari mentioned that our traditional education system has given importance to teach in mother tongue language but with the introduction of the British Education System in 1835 by East India Company the focus shifted to study in English and this has detached us from our own culture. He asserted that NEP-2020 highlighted the importance of teaching in mother tongue language and introduced several reforms to enable our education system to produce global citizens who are well connected to our ancient values. While launching the Punjabi Version of NEP-2020, Prof. Tiwari stated that CUPB will circulate this document among all educational institutions of Punjab and the same shall be available on digital mode on University Website.

Chief Guest Prof. Raj Kumar congratulated CUPB for accomplishing this novel initiative which will enhance better understanding of NEP-2020 among people of Punjab. He stated that educational institutions have organised several discussion programmes to spread awareness about NEP-2020  and now it is time to focus towards its effective  implementation through sharing of resources and joint participation.

Keynote speaker Prof. Kuldip Chand Agnihotri delivered a lecture on Role of Languages in NEP-2020 Policy Implementation. He shared the importance of richness of Gurumukhi language and emphasized that the Punjabi Version of NEP-2020 will provide access of this innovative policy document at the grassroot level. He appealed to teachers to disseminate the knowledge acquired in a foreign language into mother tongue language which can eliminate the language barrier and create a knowledgeable society.

Distinguished Speaker  K.N. Raghunandan spoke on the topic “NEP-2020 Implementation at College and University Level. He asserted that NEP-2020 is truly a student and nation-centric policy which will play a vital role in realising the vision of Atam Nirbhar Bharat. He appreciated the effort of Team CUPB to produce NEP-2020 in Punjabi language and encouraged Prof. Tiwari to take this initiative to convert this document in other Indian languages as well. Social Thinker and Activist  Vikrant Khandelwal asserted that the novel initiative of CUPB will certainly help in better understanding of NEP-2020 among people of Punjab which will be helpful in its effective implementation. Towards the end, Registrar  K.P.S. Mundra delivered the formal vote of thanks.
