Chairman BBMB give two hoots to Punjab’s demand, appoints another officer of HPGCL as Secy, BBMB

Once again, the chairman Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) has rejected Punjab’s claim on the secretary, BBMB post. Punjab had requested the BBMB authorities to appoint water resources Chief Engineer Harinderpal Singh Bedi as the Secretary, BBMB.
In a last minute twist, Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) authorities have appointed Er Surinder Singh Mittal, a Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited (HPGCL) cadre officer as secretary, BBMB after Haryana Government another officer Satish Singla’s term as secretary, Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) ended today, on February 28,2025. Er Surinder Singh Mittal is presently working as OSD to chairman, BBMB.
Today, Haryana Government officer Satish Singla’s term as secretary, BBMB ended. Singla had attained superannuation last year, but was given a one-year extension in service, which ended today.
Earlier, Punjab government had on January 24 sent the name of its water resources Chief Engineer Harinderpal Singh Bedi for appointment as the Secretary, BBMB, from March 1 onwards, after the term of the Haryana Government-appointed officer Satish Singla ended on February 28.
Till today, speculations were rife that the Haryana Government employee Satish Singla’s term will be extended by another year. i.e. till February 28, 2026.
On January 23, Haryana government had directly appointed Rakesh Chuhan as member (irrigation) in the BBMB. As per rules, the appointment of member (irrigation) is done by the union government. After Punjab government highlighted the discrepancy in the appointment of member (irrigation) , they had to take a U-turn and cancels Rakesh Chuhan’s appointment.
