Chander Gaind- known as public DC takes over charge as Commissioner Patiala Division

Newly appointed Patiala Divisional Commissioner Chander Gaind today said that he would accord top priority to provide transparent, efficient and responsive administration to the people.

A 2004 batch Senior IAS Officer Chander Gaind today assumed charge as Divisional Commissioner, Patiala Division. He was earlier serving as the Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries, Punjab and some time ago he was posted as Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur.

On his arrival at District Administrative Complex, Patiala, Deputy Commissioner Kumar Amit,  SSP Mandeep Singh Sidhu, Additional Deputy Commissioner Pooja Sial Grewal, SDM Dr. Charanjit Singh, Assistant Commissioner (G) Ismat Vijay Singh,  Assistant Commissioner (UT) Jagnoor Singh Grewal and Jasleen Kaur and other officials, welcomed Gaind, Divisional Commissioner.

On the occasion, a contingent of police saluted Gaind with a guard of honor.After assuming office, Gaind held a brief meeting with the DC and other officers and directed all the officers to implement the policies and programs of the government in a coordinated manner.

He said  his priority would be to give timely justice to all the people who come to seek justice without any delay, including drawing up new programs related to the people and taking decisions in the public interest. He said that the development programs would be expedited besides closely monitoring the quality of work.

Gaind said that Patiala district being the home district of Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh and Lok Sabha Member Preneet Kaur, the responsibility of the district officers become more crucial and he would accord top priority to the ground level implementation of pro people schemes of the Punjab  government.

Speaking on Covid-19, Gaind appealed to the people to wear masks, follow the precaution of hand washing and maintaining social distancing as only then we will be able to make the ‘Mission Fateh’ launched by the Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, a real success in the fight against Corona Virus.

After assuming his post as Divisional Commissioner, Chander Gaind along with his wife Dr. Richa Gaind and other family members, also paid obeisance at the local historical Gurdwara Sri Dukh Niwaran Sahib and the ancient temple Sri Kali Devi and prayed for the welfare of all.

Giani Pranam Singh, Head Granthi of Gurdwara Sahib at Gurdwara Dukh Niwaran Sahib presented Siropas to Divisional Commissioner Chander Gaind and family members while he was also felicitated at Temple Sri Kali Devi.  After this,  Gaind also visited the Gaushala of Municipal Corporation on Sanour Road where he was felicitated by Anish Mangla, President of Radha Krishna Cow welfare Committee who is managing the affairs of Gaushala.

It may be recalled that Chander Gaind as Deputy Commissioner of Ferozepur has many distinctions to his credit. He was the first DC to travel by train to play tributes to Shaheed Bhagat Singh Rajguru and Sukhdev at Hussainiwala Martyrs Memorial.  He took unique steps and decisions which were highly appreciated by the people from all walks of life. Gaind had made Anmol Beri, a 15-year-old girl suffering from a rare locomotor disease, as DC for one day and also appointed Anmol as the brand ambassador for Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao campaign in Ferozepur district.

Similarly, Gaind introduced ‘trees for gun’ scheme by making it mandatory to plant and nourish 10 saplings before applying for a weapon license.  Under this programme, the arm licensee candidate should bring his selfie with the 10 saplings being planted by him.

While assuming the office of Commissioner  Ferozepur division, the entire staff of Divisional Commissioner office including Tehsildar Ranjit Singh and Naib Tehsildar  Pawandeep Singh, were present.
