Chandigarh Power Privatization Issue: NCCOEEE supports UT power men, work boycott if any unilateral decision taken

National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers ( NCCOEEE) extended nationwide support to the struggle of UT power men against Chandigarh privatisation till the decision was withdrawn. In case any unilateral decision is taken to issue a letter of intent (LOI) then without any further notice power employees shall start indefinite work boycott.
The rally in sector 17 was attended by state engineers and employees from Punjab, Haryana, Uttrakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. The prominent leaders who addressed the rally are Padamjit Singh, Shailendta Dubey, Subhash Lamba, Mohan Sharma , Ajaypal Singh Atwal, Vijendra Lamba,Kartikey Dubey, Samiullah ,YS Tomar,Amit Ranjan, Anil Nagar, Yash Pal Sharma , Gopal Dutt Joshi, Vijay Kumar and others.
Member of Parliament from Chandigarh Manish Tewari addressed the rally and declared that he and his parties wholeheartedly support the struggle of power employees against privatization. He said that public assets of thousands of crores of rupees cannot be allowed to be sold to private houses at throw away prices. He further said that he will talk with leaders of other political parties of Parliament and shall decide to collectively oppose the privatization of Chandigarh Power department in Parliament.
Shailender Dubey Chairman AIPEF said that NCCOEEE has decided all out financial support will be extended to UT powermen union to fight a legal battle in the Supreme Court. The employees union shall give a notice to UT administration that if any unilateral decision is taken to issue a letter of intent (LOI) then without any further notice power employees shall start indefinite work boycott. In support nationwide demonstrations of power employees and engineers will be held across the country.

Dubey said that they stand with Chandigarh power men in their fight against privatisation. The privatisation process started during the corona pandemic cannot be justified. In a similar situation the privatisation process of the electricity department in Puducherry was stopped and privatisation of Chandigarh electricity department will not be allowed at any cost.
Padamjit Singh said that the process of privatization of 100% stakes in Distribution and Supply of electricity in Union Territory, Chandigarh is violative and beyond the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2003.
Gopal Joshi, General secretary, said the profit making department is being privatised just to benefit the corporate sector.
