Channi gets ‘Return Gift’ from Congress MP’s brother on his visit to MP’s constituency

Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, who yesterday campaigned and addressed an election rally in support of Khadoor Sahib MLA Ramanjit Singh Sikki at Naurangabad village gets a jolt today morning when Khadoor Sahib MP Jasbir Singh Dimpa’s younger brother Rajan Gill, a staunch supporter of Congress ,left congress and joined the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in the presence of its president Sukhbir Singh Badal in Amritsar on Wednesday.
“This is a return gift for chief minister Charnajit Singh Channi, who is campaigning for Sikki and for denying ticket to Rajan Gill . Gill family has a hold on nine assembly constituencies. Congress didn’t care about these senior leaders. That’s why Rajan Gill along with supporters of the Gill family, joined the SAD” said a leader on the sidelines of the function. The importance of Rajan Gill induction into SAD can be gauged from the fact that his name was specifically mentioned by the SAD leaders, including Amritsar East candidate Bikram Singh Majithia.
It all happens, after the Congress denied the Gill family the ticket from Khadoor Sahib Assembly segment, Rajan and Dimpa’s son Gursant Updesh Singh Gill filed their nominations as Congress candidates even as the party had fielded two-time MLA Ramanjit Singh Sikki from this Panthic seat. The papers of both Rajan Gill and Dimpa’s son were rejected by the Election Commission.
Replying to a query on Congress MP and his brother Dimpa’s stand, Rajan said, “All I know is that we are united. If I am sitting here with SAD leaders, it is with the consent of my family.”
The Gill family is associated with the Congress for decades and Dimpa’s father, Sant Singh Lidhar, who was assassinated by militants in 1986, has been the Beas MLA twice.

These are-Kapurthala, Sultanpur Lodhi, Zira, Jandiala ,Patti, Khadoor Sahib, Tarn Taran,Khemkaran ,Baba Bakala. These nine seats falls in Kapurthala, Firozpur, tarn Taran,Amritsar districts.
