The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Bibi Jagir Kaur has strongly condemned that unfortunate incident that took place at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib today.

In a press statement, Bibi Jagir Kaur said that the incident of smoking cigarette by an accused person in the presence of Sri Guru Granth Sahib at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, the center of Sikh faith, is highly deplorable that has hurt the sentiments of the Sikh Sangat (community).

SGPC President said, “Some anti-Sikh forces want to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of Punjab by committing such heinous acts and various tactics are being adopted for the same. In the past, many crimes of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib took place in Punjab.” A person identified as Paramjit  of Ludhiana has been arrested in connection with the incident of smoking cigarette at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib early morning today. “The management of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib has lodged a case against the accused under Section 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and handed him over to the police”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.

Bibi Jagir Kaur demanded from the government administration that the intention behind this incident should be ascertained from the accused person and the forces behind this crime should be brought to the light of the Sangat. “Despite the fact that the culprits of incidents of sacrilege were caught many times in the past, the intentions never come to light and no strict deterrent action has been taken against them due to which these incidents are happening continuously.”
