Today, Rupnagar District BJP President Ajayvir Singh Lalpura and BJP Punjab SC Morcha State President & Retired IAS officer SR Laddar held a joint press conference, launching a strong attack on Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, accusing him of misleading the people of the state.

Laddar clarified that the Central Government has not cancelled a single ration card of the poor, but has only directed e-KYC verification as per the Supreme Court’s orders.

“CM Mann is unnecessarily creating confusion among people,” said Laddar. “The Supreme Court directed all states to ensure e-KYC verification of ration cards so that no ineligible person avails the benefits and no genuine beneficiary is left out. The Centre has only asked for re-verification, and if any eligible person has been excluded, they must be added immediately.”

The Central Government also issued a clarification on Sunday, stating that not a single beneficiary has been removed from Punjab’s National Food Security Act list, nor has the foodgrain quota for the state been reduced.

Lalpura Targets AAP Ministers Over Taxi Drivers’ Issues
During the press conference, District BJP President Ajayvir Singh Lalpura raised several sharp questions against the AAP government. Taking a direct dig at Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, he said:
“Bains Sahab should first explain what he has done for the taxi drivers of Rupnagar. Nearly 50% of taxi operators from Rupnagar district work in Delhi, but despite AAP being in power there, no letters were issued, no photographs surfaced, and no steps were taken to resolve their concerns.”
Lalpura highlighted BJP’s proactive efforts for taxi drivers:
•On 6th December 2024, he personally met Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari to present the concerns of taxi operators.
•On 17th October 2023, he met Union Minister Gen. V.K. Singh to discuss the demands of taxi unions in Chandigarh and Delhi.
•On 23rd May 2025, he met Delhi’s newly elected Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh and secured an agreement to work on resolving employment issues faced by Rupnagar taxi drivers.
Lalpura accused all three AAP MLAs from Rupnagar of remaining silent on taxi drivers’ struggles:
“Today, Rupnagar is questioning you. Why were you silent on issues like the panic button installation in taxis? I have raised their concerns at the Delhi and Central levels — but what have you done?”

Illegal Sand Mining, Elgran Bridge Damage & Vidhan Sabha Recruitment Scam
Lalpura also slammed the AAP government over illegal sand mining:
“Illegal mining in Rupnagar has severely damaged the Elgran Bridge. Heavy truck movement has weakened its structure, yet the government has neither stopped mining nor taken measures to ensure the bridge’s safety. Thousands of people risk their lives crossing it daily.”
He further questioned the alleged Vidhan Sabha recruitment scam, saying:
“Education Minister Harjot Bains himself revealed irregularities in 158 Vidhan Sabha recruitments through his press conference— but why is he silent now? If you exposed the scam, why haven’t you taken action against the culprits? Are they being given political protection?”
PACL Disinvestment & Unanswered Questions
Lalpura also raised concerns over the PACL disinvestment issue and questioned the AAP government’s silence.
“The people of Rupnagar demand answers. What have AAP’s three MLAs done in the Assembly to raise concerns about taxi drivers, illegal mining, recruitment scams, the Elgran Bridge, and PACL disinvestment?
He further challenged the AAP government:
“If BJP’s service camps are wrong, under what rule did Team Dinesh Chaddha organize theirs?”
Lalpura concluded by saying that Rupnagar’s youth, farmers, taxi drivers, PACL investors, and the common public are demanding accountability from the AAP government.
“The government has no answers, but BJP is committed to fighting for every issue,” Lalpura asserted.
Prominent BJP leaders Jagdish Chandra Kajla, Himmat Singh Girn, Amanpreet Singh Kabbarwal, onkar abiana, Gautam Ji, and Dharminder Singh were also present during the press conference.
