CM expressed his emotional connection with Punjabi University; Three-Day Inter-State Youth-Festival concluded

The three-day Inter-Varsity Youth Festival organized by the Department of Youth Services, Government of Punjab at Punjabi University, Patiala concluded successfully on the third day reaching its climax with the uproar and vigour of Bhangra. Around 1200 students from 13 universities participated in 39 different arts. Based on the total sum of marks obtained in all the competitions, Panjab University, Chandigarh was successful in winning the overall trophy of this fair. The second place i.e., first runner-up award went to the host Punjabi University and the third place i.e., second runner-up went to Lovely Professional University.

On the last day of the youth fair, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Higher Education Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer and Health Minister Chetan Singh Joudemajra specially arrived for the occasion. The Chief Minister congratulated and blessed all the participants while motivating them for utilising their brimming energies. He said that we strongly believe in the power of youth. Working to give them employment is one of the priority agendas of the government. He said that the face of Punjab is going to change in the coming days as various international firms of large scale are coming to invest here. He commented that we do not consider only the construction of bridges and roads as development, but we consider shaping the character of our nation as the biggest development.

Referring to his emotional connections with Guru Tegh Bahadur Hall of Punjabi University, he said that this hall is not new to him as since his student days in Shaheed Udham Singh College, he had been associated with this hall during youth fairs. He exclaimed that he got the first ever gold medal of his life on this stage only. It is like a runway for great artists and writers from where they have been able to fly to the heights they are today. Pointing towards the financial liabilities of Punjabi University, he said that education should not remain under debt. We are doing our best in this regard. He added that if education is the ‘third eye’, then the government should open its ‘fourth eye’ towards it by releasing the required funds.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Arvind speaking on this occasion, thanked the Punjab Government for organizing this fair. He said that such youth fairs instill self-confidence in students as they get opportunities to showcase and hone their talents through the platform. He assured that Punjabi University will work shoulder to shoulder with the Punjab Government in the process of carving the name of Punjab in golden letters on the world map.

Apart from Bhangra, the competitions on the last day included Folk Orchestra, Classical Vocal (Solo), Classical Instrument (Taal), Classical Instrument (Voice), Classical Dance (Kathak/Bharat Natyam/Odissi and Kathakali etc.) arts.
