CM Saini leads Haryana Vidhan Sabha in obituary references to politicians, martyrs, relatives of leaders

On the first day of the Budget session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha which commenced here today, obituary resolutions were passed to pay rich tributes to those prominent personalities who expired between the period from the end of the previous session and the beginning of this session.

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who is also the Leader of the House, paid tributes and read out the obituary resolutions. These include  Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India, Chaudhary Om Parkash Chautala, former Chief Minister of Haryana,  Satpal Sangwan, former Minister of Haryana, Dr. Kirpa Ram Punia, former Minister of Haryana,  Surinder Singh Aujla, Chaudhary Karam Singh,  Hem Raj, all former Members of Haryana Legislative Assembly, and Baaj Singh, Freedom Fighter.

Vidhan Sabha Speaker,  Harvinder Kalyan also read the obituary resolutions and paid tributes to the departed souls.  Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Arjun Chautala also read the obituary resolutions on behalf of their respective parties. The House conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved families.

The House expressed sorrow on the sad demise of Padma Vibhushan Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India, who passed away on December 26, 2024. Dr. Manmohan Singh played a vital role in developing Economic Liberalization Policy during decade of 1990s, which had a significant impact on the economy of India. During his long, illustrious and highly distinguished parliamentary career, he served as the Chairperson of the Committee on Commerce and also as member of Committee on Finance, Rules Committee, Committee of Privileges and General Purposes Committee.

He is recognized worldwide as a distinguished scholar in the field of economics and public policy. He also held several significant positions, including Governor of the Reserve Bank of India and Deputy Chairperson of the Planning Commission. He was honoured with several prestigious awards including the Padma Vibhushan in 1987 and the ‘Euro money Award’ for the best Finance Minister in the year 1993. He will always be fondly remembered for his duty-bound, innate simplicity and humane nature other than being an economist of repute.

The House also expressed deep sense of sorrow on the sad demise of Chaudhary Om Parkash Chautala, former Chief Minister of Haryana, on December 20, 2024.

Ch. Om Parkash Chautala was born on January 1, 1935. Being brought up and educated in a rural atmosphere, he had closely seen and felt the problems of rural Haryana. The long and illustrious legislative career of Chaudhary Om Parkash Chautala began in the year 1970, when he first got elected to the Haryana Legislative Assembly. He was also elected to the Haryana Legislative Assembly in the years 1990, 1993, 1996, 2000, 2005 and 2009. He adorned the office of Chief Minister of Haryana five times from December 2, 1989 to May 23, 1990, July 12, 1990 to July 17, 1990, March 22, 1991 to April 5, 1991, July 24, 1999 to March 2, 2000 and March 2, 2000 to March 5, 2005. In his death, Haryana has lost an administrator of high calibre. The House conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family.

The House also expressed its deep sense of sorrow on the sad demise of  Satpal Sangwan, former Minister of Haryana, on March 3, 2025.  Satpal Sangwan was born on January 7, 1942. He was elected to the Haryana Legislative Assembly in the years 1996 and 2009. Не remained Minister during 2011-14 and held a number of important portfolios. He was a committed social worker.

The House also mourned the sad demise of Dr. Kirpa Ram Punia, former Minister of Haryana, on January 19, 2025. He was born on January 1, 1936. He was elected to the Haryana Legislative Assembly in 1987 and remained Minister during 1987-89. He held a number of important portfolios including Development & Panchayat, Social Welfare, Agriculture, Technical Education, Industries, Tourism and Mines & Geology during his tenure as, Minister in the State.

The House also gave a tearful farewell to 21 brave soldiers of Haryana who showed indomitable courage and made the supreme sacrifice while safeguarding the unity and integrity of the motherland. These include Subedar Narender Singh of village Jaitrawas, District Rewari, Subedar Surajmal, village Pahadipur, District Jhajjar, Inspector Dharamveer, village Kosli, District Rewari, Inspector Sandeep, village Guwani, District Mahendragarh, Assistant Sub Inspector Agnivesh, village Datal, District Mahendragarh, Assistant Sub Inspector Surender Ahlawat, village Sheriya Kalan, District Jhajjar, Havildar Rajkumar, village Talwana, District Mahendragarh, Havildar Harvinder, village Bhaloth, District Rohtak, Havildar Sandeep Kumar, village Kharak Jatan, District Rohtak, Head Constable Sunil Kumar Hooda, village Kiloi, District Rohtak, Pradhan Navik Manoj Kumar, village Mundahera, District Jhajjar, Naik Deepak Kumar, village Dharana, District Jhajjar, Naik Deepak Mailk, village Kasanda, District Sonipat, Corporal Manjeet Kumar, village Baganwala, District Bhiwani, Corporal Deepak Kumar, village Salhawas, District Jhajjar, Leading Aircraftman Mohit Jangra, village Rudiawas, District Jhajjar, Sepoy Paramvir, village Sihma, District Mahendragarh, Sepoy Dara Singh, village Tigra, District Mahendragarh, Sepoy Sandeep Singh, village Bidola, District Bhiwani, Sepoy Sitender Singh, village Data, District Hisar and Sepoy Vinod Kumar, village Badli, District Jhajjar.

Apart from this, the House also placed on record its deep sense of sorrow on the sad demise of  Rajpal Singh Nagar, uncle of  Krishan Pal Gurjar, Union Minister of State;  Shanti Devi, aunt of Dr. Arvind Kumar Sharma. Minister,  Beerja Chaudhary, mother-in-law of  Shruti Choudhry, Minister;  Prem Lal Sharma, brother-in-law of  Rekha Sharma, MP;  Usha Kadian, sister of  Sunil Sangwan, MLA; and  Maya Devi, sister of  Ram Kumar Gautam, MLA.
