Justice Rajesh Bhardwaj of Punjab and Haryana High Court has transferred the Patiala’s infamous Col. Bath assault case from Chandigarh police to CBI.
Confirming the same Gurtej Singh Dhillon, BJP leader and brother-in-law of Col Pushpinder Singh Bath said “yes, now the CBI will probe the issue.”
Col Bath and his family was seeking an independent probe into the matter, preferably by the Central Bureau of Investigation, on the ground as the Chandigarh Police had failed to conduct a “fair and free investigation”.
Chandigarh Police’s failure to arrest any of the accused Punjab Police personnel in Col Bath assault case seems to have set the ground foe transferring the case from Chandigarh police to CBI.
The court’s decision follows strong remarks by Justice Rajesh Bhardwaj, who earlier this week criticized the Chandigarh Police for failing to arrest any of the accused Punjab Police officers. Describing the delay as “intentional,” the court observed that the investigation had been compromised and that the police seemed to be shielding the accused.
Col Bath assault case update: probe transferred to central investigating agency. Justice Bhardwaj further stated that the conduct of the investigating agency sent the wrong message and raised concerns about accountability within the police system.
Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath had a tiff with Patiala police personnels over a parking dispute outside a dhaba in Patiala on the night of March 13,2025 during which Colonel Bath and his son were allegedly assaulted by Patiala police inspectors and their staff.
