Commonwealth Games Medalist Inspires Athletes at Modern School’s 77th Sports Meet

Modern Senior Secondary School, Patiala, celebrated the culmination of its 77th Annual Sports Meet with great zeal on Saturday, 18 October 2025. The event was graced by Harminder Singh, Indian Racewalker and Commonwealth Games medalist, as the Chief Guest.

The school ground buzzed with energy as students from all grades participated in a wide range of track and field events. Senior students impressed the audience with their agility and speed in the 100m, 200m races, hurdles, relays, and long jump, while the younger ones delighted everyone with their cheerful participation in fun races such as ice-cream race, car pulling race and obstacle race. The event drew a large turnout of enthusiastic parents and guests who cheered on every participant.

Anmol Singh stole the spotlight with an outstanding display of athleticism, clocking an incredible 11.88 seconds in the 100m sprint. He also soared 5.19m in the long jump, clinching gold in both events and setting a benchmark for excellence.

Over the past few weeks, the spirit of competition had already filled the campus through inter-house matches in basketball, football, taekwondo, and badminton, held as part of the annual sports celebrations.

Adding to the excitement of the day were some spectacular stage performances, a jugalbandi between the school band and music troupe, a synchronized mass drill, and a vibrant bhangra finale that left the crowd cheering. Lively commentary by student anchors kept the momentum high throughout the ceremony.

During the prize distribution ceremony, medals and trophies were awarded to students for their outstanding athletic performances. Addressing the gathering, Harminder Singh applauded the students’ discipline, dedication, and sportsmanship. School President, Jujhar Singh, and Principal, Manpreet Sharma, congratulated the participants and expressed gratitude to the sports faculty and organizing committee for making the event a grand success.
