Cong leader Dhillon opposes move to accord district status to Anandpur Sahib, threatens to launch agitation

Former Punjab Youth Congress president and senior congress leader  Brinder Singh Dhillon has strongly opposed the reported move of Punjab government to accord district status to Anandpur Sahib on the occasion of 350th martyrdom anniversary of  Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.

Dhillon said that the size of Rupnagar district had already reduced due to formation of  Fatehgarh Sahib,Nawanshar and Mohali districts and carving out another district would further reduce its size,which is unacceptable.

He said that Anandpur Sahib had great importance,which would not increase by according it district status and by  constructing administrative buildings.

Dhillon said that if the government really wants to give befitting tribute to Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji on his 350th martyrdom anniversary,it should announce big development project for the town.

He warned that they would launch an agitation if the government go ahead with its reported plant to accord district status to Anandpur Sahib.

Meanwhile, the strike of District Bar Association, Rupnagar over the issue continued today also.Association president Harpreet Singh Kang said that they would intensified the agitation if the government accord district status to Anandpur Sahib.

Residents of Rupnagar have already expressed their resentment over  the reported move of the government.

Meanwhile,the anticipated decision to accord district status to Anandpur Sahib had led to agitations in Garhshanker ,Balachaur and Kharar.

Residents of Garhshanker and Balachaur have opposed their inclusion in Anandpur Sahib district while residents of various villages of Gharuan Kanoongoi of Kharar area have opposed the move to include these villages in Rupangar district to compensate Rupnagar district if Anandpur Sahib district is formed.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders of these areas are in a fix  over the reported move of the government,which could cost the party dear in the assembly elections.
