In a surprise move, All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday dissolved the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee and all district committees in the state with immediate effect, though it’s State unit president Sunil Jakhar will remain unchanged.

In a press release issued by party general secretary KC Venugopal  “The Congress president has dissolved “executive committee of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) and District Congress Committees (DCCs) of Punjab with immediate effect. The president of Punjab PCC shall remain unchanged,” the statement said.

The party released a statement in this regard, a day after State Chief Minister Amarinder Singh met Gandhi at Delhi and held detailed discussions with her.

The Congress in Punjab is all set to carry out a major reshuffle exercise in the Council of Ministers. It seems that Chief Minister Capt Amarinder has also discussed the Cabinet reshuffle with the party president Sonia Gandhi in the meeting.

As of now, just one berth is lying vacant after the cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu formally resigned from the State Cabinet in July last year,in protest against the changing his portfolio. As per sources some Ministers have been asked not to take any important policy decisions for the time being, and just concentrate on their day-to-day work.
