Connecting Women with Wikimedia Projects; special meeting organized dedicated to Women’s Day

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Punjabi Wikimedians User Group organized a special meeting aimed at strengthening women’s participation on digital platforms and increasing content related to women across various Wikimedia projects. The meeting was led by senior Wikimedian Tamanpreet Kaur and was hosted at Patiala Book House by Gurdeep Qafir.
On this occasion, motivational speaker Principal Ripanjot Kaur Soni Bagga and renowned author Dr. Ashwinder Kaur attended as special guests. They shared their views on women’s education, social awareness, and the growing role of women on digital platforms. They emphasized that in today’s world, it is very important for women to connect with platforms that create and share knowledge so that the voices of all sections of society can be properly represented at a global level.
During the meeting, detailed information was shared about Wikipedia, Wikisource, Wikimedia Commons, and other Wikimedia Foundation projects. The speakers informed participants that these platforms are not only for acquiring information but also plays a crucial for creating and editing content. Special emphasis was placed on the need to include more content related to women, their achievements, history, and contributions across Wikimedia projects.

Tamanpreet Kaur stated that active participation of women in the digital age can not only enrich the pool of knowledge but also strengthen the idea of gender equality in society. She encouraged participants to engage with different Wikimedia projects and create articles on topics related to women.
Amritpal Kaur Aman, appreciating the growing role of women in the digital space, said that such initiatives inspire the next generation to engage in knowledge creation. She emphasized the need to continue organizing such inspiring information-sharing meetings in the future. The meeting concluded with Taranpreet Goswami expressing gratitude to all participants, among whom were Charan Gill, Satdeep Gill, Sonia Nohra, Jasmin Goswami, Harman Kaur, Anshpreet Kaur, and Nirmal Kaur.
