The MP from Sri Anandpur Sahib Constituency, Manish Tewari opined that the present Modi Government is posing a great threat to not only the secular structure of Indian society and polity but also to the very essence of the Constitution of India. Manish Tewari was in Government Mohindra College, Patiala today to present his Presidential Address on the occasion of the Fourth Two Day International Conference on the topic of Challenges to Indian Polity and Governance, present scenario and future agenda. He was accompanied by the Chairman of Punjab Gau Sewa Commission, Sachin Sharma, as well as the Chairman of Large Industries Development Board, Pawan Diwan.

In his address Manish Tewari said that it is the most sensitive time that we are living in after India gained independence. India and its very foundation, the constitution, is facing a huge threat due to non-secular forces. He opined that no one religion can be the foundation of Indian democracy and polity because the division of India and Islamic state Pakistan was made on the same premise that India would remain a secular state.

On the other hand the rolling out of CAA and NRC by the present government defies the very idea of a secular nation that our forefathers had envisioned for us in the Constitution of India. The next threat to the Indian nation is the depletion in green cover and other environmental issues. There is a great need to overhaul the administrative structure of India in the present time. 98 crore of Indian population lives in villages and is poor. They do not have access to basic amenities and this is their biggest challenge that needs to be redressed immediately. The economy as well as administration are faced with yet another challenge that is of the unleashing of artificial intelligence in almost all sectors of life and society in India. It would amount to furthering unemployment and poverty.

While interacting with media on the question of the victory of AAP in Delhi, Manish Tewari said that there is no greater dynamic leader in Punjab other than Captain Amarinder Singh. Tewari said that Captain Amarinder Singh had won the hearts and confidence of the People of Punjab in the last three years. The previous government that ruled for 10 years and emptied the coffers of the state would very soon be marginalized by the present Congress Government.

Tewari informed the gathering that both his parents had been old students of Government Mohindra College Patiala and he had always had the desire to visit their alma mater and when the organising committee extended this invitation to grace the occasion of the conference as Chief Guest, he grabbed the opportunity to visit the college.

The Principal of the college, Dr. Simrat Kaur welcomed all guests and dignitaries for their gracious presence and contribution towards making the conference a huge success.

Dr. Suresh Sharma introduced the theme of the conference. Dr. Prabhjot Parmar from University of Frazer, Canada delivered the Keynote address and Dr. P. Sahni shared his views in the inaugural address.

The First day of the Conference witnessed 5 technical sessions wherein 120 research papers were read followed by major brainstorming sessions and deliberations. It was decided that a book will be published, after the conference, which will contain all the discussions and deliberations along with the results reached at in Technical Sessions in the Two-Day International Conference.
