In what points to a lackadaisical behavior of the district health department authorities or a nexus between officials of the civil surgeon, Patiala or Mata Kaushalya Hospital and the parking contractor, the health authorities seems to turned a blind eye to blatant overcharging at the MKH’s paid parking lot .

Civil Surgeon, Patiala office is in the premises of Mata Kaushalya Hospital, Patiala.

The parking contractor at Mata Kaushalya Hospital and Civil Surgeon, Patiala is charging Rs 10 for a cycle parking and top of that they are not giving any receipt to the cycle owner for parking their cycle at the cycle stand.

“The person coming on cycle is already poor and the parking lot contractor is charging Rs 10 from him is an inhumanitarian act. In contrast a person coming on scooter or motorcycle is paying equivalent amount for parking his two wheeler. Charging for services and not issuing any receipt is a clear cut case of corruption. Moreover, if the cycle owner asked for inflated amount or receipt, employees at the parking lots either misbehave with him or threaten him that they would not be held responsible if the cycle goes missing or lifted by anyone” said Narinder Sharma, a resident of Patiala.

When contacted the medical superintendent Mata Kaushalya Hospital, Dr Jagpalinder Singh, he said “ I don’t know about this. Presently I am out of station and will be back by Tuesday. I’ll look into the matter on priority.” He further added that “ this is intolerable. Our hospital slip is of Rs 10 and we are giving free medicines. If a person or patient is coming on cycle and paying Rs 10 for parking is than it’s a matter of concern.”

When contacted Dr Raminder Kaur, civil surgeon Patiala, she said “ I have no knowledge about this. I’ll check it and will surely look into it.”
