AAP leader alleges corruption in Nangal Municipal Council, raises questions on Public Fund Misuse; Congress MCs deny allegations

Bahadurjeet Singh/ Nangal,  March 04,2025

Serious concerns are being raised about the functioning of the ruling Congress in the Nangal Municipal Council. As alleged scams within the council continue to be exposed, the unease and panic among the ruling councillors are growing.

Dr Sanjeev Gautam Chairman Guru Ravidas Ayurvedic University alleged that the council, which was supposed to serve the people, has now become a hub of corruption. Crores of rupees are being spent in the name of development, but no substantial work is visible on the ground.

Serious Questions on Public Fund Misuse

Dr Gautam said that Massive scams are being carried out under the guise of development projects in the municipal council. One of the biggest examples is the unnecessary installation of paver blocks. While new pavers are being laid everywhere, in reality, the old ones are simply being removed and reinstalled, with fake bills being generated for the process. Local residents have raised concerns that this is a blatant waste of public money.

Additionally, instead of awarding contracts to local contractors, they are being handed over to outsiders arbitrarily. This has not only harmed local contractors but has also left many laborers in Nangal unemployed.

The key question arises: when local contractors are capable of handling these projects, why are external companies being preferred?

Dr Gautam said that misuse of Section 52/2 L of the Municipal Act, The most serious issue in this entire matter is the alleged misuse of Section 52/2 L of the Municipal Act. This section is meant for emergency situations such as floods, earthquakes, heavy rains, or other natural disasters. However, in this case, it is being exploited to squander public tax money without any legitimate emergency. Experts argue that such misuse of this act is entirely unlawful and unacceptable.

AAP Government Assures Action Against Corruption

Dr Gautam said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has strongly reacted to this issue. Party leaders have clarified that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s government has never halted developmental projects but will not tolerate the misuse of public funds. Punjab minister Harjot Singh Bains has always worked with integrity, but some Congress councillors have attempted to tarnish his image.

AAP leaders also pointed out that a Congress councillor, driven by political ambitions, has been making misleading statements. However, the public is no longer easily deceived. Interestingly, due to internal conflicts within Congress, their councillors could not even reach a consensus in their own meeting, failing to address key municipal issues.

This raises an important question: how can those who are not united within their own party claim to bring unity in society?

The Fight Against Corruption Will Continue

The Aam Aadmi Party has assured that if it comes to power, transparency in Nangal Municipal Council will be its top priority. Corruption at every level will be eradicated, ensuring that public funds are used correctly.

It is now time for the people to raise their voices against corruption and remove those responsible from power. If these malpractices are not stopped in time, Nangal could become a hub of scams rather than a center of development in the coming years.

When contacted the MC Nangal Congress MCs spokesperson Paramjit Singh Pamma, he condemn, deny the allegations leveled by ruling AAP leaders. He said ” the contract worth crores of rupees have been allotted to contractors having alliance with the ruling party. Instead its AAP party which has stopped the development of Nangal . The MC has passed many resolutions for the development of the town. But the officers under the present govt are not sanctioning the same.  Moreover the allegation of misuse of Section 52/2 L of the Municipal Act is a baseless. This is required whenever the work has be done on BBMB land. The new pavers are being laid as they are in dialpated condition. “
