Punjab State Medical & Dental Teachers Association has demanded termination of the services of the AIIMS Bathinda male nurses who were deputed for Covid duties in the isolation ward of Rajindra Hospital Patiala and have left the duties by making irresponsible and baseless allegations against the hospital authorities and have defamed the institution.

In a joint press release, President Dr DS Bhullar and general secretary Dr Darshanjit Singh Walia of the local unit of PSMDTA, have said this is gross dereliction in duty and along with termination of their services, criminal cases under the Epidemic Act and Disaster Management Act must be registered against the male nurses.

The association leaders have appealed to the state government to depute nurses from the local areas for Covid duties in the isolation ward of Rajindra Hospital in Patiala who can better understand and serve the covid patients and will also find employment.

Covid duty denial at Rajindra hospital-terminate services of AIIMS Bathinda male nurses-PSMDTA .These nurses are sitting idle since deputed but drawing huge salaries and putting them to work has not gone well with them.

It is national calamity and everyone is supposed to work in the pandemic without consideration of personal priorities but the irresponsible behaviour of these nurses has exposed their attitude of no interest in duties and anti patient approach.

It is in fact a wrong selection policy by the AIIMS authorities to select most of people from outside the state ,who have also blocked the employment opportunity to the people of Punjab, said the association leaders.

Instead of going on strike, the nurses were supposed to give time to the authorities for rectification of deficiencies if any but they acted in haste without understanding the ground realities and the limitations of the hospital authorities.
