Residents, particularly students of Royal city Patiala got curious over the display of reverse national flag of Pakistan on a tank placed outside the Army’s Div Headquarter on Mall Road, Patiala.
Harsehaj , a student said “ i am daily passing through this road. I noticed something different on a tank placed outside the Indian Army office on Mall road. The tank was newly painted and a reverse national flag of Pakistan was displayed on it . Than i discussed it my friends, they had also noticed this in the past. We thought it might be a painter’s work who wrongly painted Pakistan’s national flag upside down.”
They brought up this matter with the royalpatiala.in team. We informed them that it’s right to display upside down national flag of an enemy’s captured tank. But, the students don’t feel satisfied with our answer. They want a concrete, confirm reason for displaying Pakistan national flag upside down on a tank placed outside an Army office in Patiala.
On student’s consistent demand, the royalpatiala.in team crossed check it with a retired decorated army official Gen Jagbir Singh and he clarified that “as per convention, when any enemy’s tank or other item is captured, an upside down national flag is made to show it’s captured. If the national flag is shown in the right way, position, than it will show that the enemy country flag is flying in our country”.
He further added that “it’s not a mistake but it’s a right way to display the national flag of the country. It also shows the bravery of our army who captured these armoured tanks of the enemy, in the battle field. He also added that whenever a tank is displayed for public,if it’s main gun barrel is down facing, it means this tank surrendered in battle. If it’s gun barrel is straight, then it means this tank is only for ornamental purpose. If the gun barrel is high and pointed towards sky, it means the tank won the battle and returned victorious. “”
Gagandeep, a mother said “it’s due to the lack of knowledge, poor education system that the future of India , residents don’t know the meaning , reason of this. What are we taughting our children in the school?”
