In a bizarre incident, a college whose chairman is the deputy commissioner, vice chairman is the sub divisional magistrate (SDM), flouted covid guidelines. This all came to fore when six staff members of Public College, Samana, district Patiala tested Covid positive during a random testing by the district health team on Saturday afternoon.

The college flouted the state guidelines, its chairman, deputy commissioner Patiala Kumar Amit guidelines, of 50 percent employee attendance at the institution concerned. As per the state government , district magistrate orders, issued on September 9, government offices will operate with 50 per cent staff strength till September end, due to increase in covid cases in Punjab.

Keeping asides the government’s guidelines, the college principal issued an order on September 9, wherein he asked the entire teaching and non-teaching staff to come to the college, citing the reason “due to the ongoing admission process” and openly flouted the government orders.

Presently, it is imparting education in the field of Arts, Commerce and Computer Science. Hailing its wonderful progress and overall performance the Punjabi University, Patiala declared this college as the “Model College” of the university in the year 1996.
