DC inaugurates Punjab’s first ‘Road Victims Memorial’ at Patiala

Deputy Commissioner Patiala Kumar Amit, today dedicated ‘Road Victims Memorial’  near Maharaja Bhalinder Singh Sports Complex (polo ground). The initiative was taken under the project ‘Patiala Foundation SADAK’, by Patiala Foundation  in collaboration with District Administration, Patiala. He paid homage alongwith MC Commissioner, Punamdeep Kaur and SDM Charanjit Singh by laying wreaths on the newly constructed memorial.

Deputy Commissioner while appreciating the concept, expressed hope that Patiala Foundation would maintain this memorial in the sweet memory of the Road Crash Victims, under the ‘Remember ME plaque’ initiative in its efforts of providing a permanent memorial to lives lost and devastated through road crashes. This would not only provide some solace to the families but also raise public awareness towards the increasing numbers of avoidable Road fatalities, he added.

MC Commissioner, Punamdeep Kaur while  applauding the Initiatives taken by ‘Patiala Foundation SADAK’, to remember the beloved ones of various families who lost to road accidents and Sensitise the others about traffic rules, said that the memorial would prove a befitting homage to the people who could not survive and will work as a torch bearer to must abide by the traffic rules for rest of the people.

Chief Functionary of Patiala Foundation, Ravi Singh Ahluwalia said that Patiala Foundation would maintain the remembrance wall in collaboration with Patiala Media Club where the family members can raise a plaque with the victim‘s name.

An online wall of remembrance was also launched by the DC Kumar Amit and Commissioner, Punamdeep Kaur. This online wall would serve as an online memorial and the families who have lost their beloved ones in road accidents can record the name of their members here, said Ravi Ahluwalia.

Briefing about the working of the foundation, Ahluwalia said that Patiala Foundation has been working on various Social welfare projects in the state of Punjab and surrounding States since 2009. Patiala Foundation is an organization in special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations since 2018 and registered with the Registrar of Societies under the Registrar of Societies Act 1860. Patiala Foundation is working in the field of Livelihood, Heritage & Tourism and Road Safety.

Similarly, Patiala Foundation ‘SADAK’, has been working on the road safety project ‘Patiala Foundation SADAK’ since 2017 in order to sensitize the Community members regarding Road safety.

DC inaugurates Punjab’s first ‘Road Victims Memorial’ at Patiala. Prominent amongst others present on the occasion included, Dr Nidhi Sharma Ahluwalia, Anmoljit Singh, Dr Summi, Harpreet Sandhu, Rakesh Badhwar, Pawan Goyal, Vikram Malhotra, SP Chand, Rakesh Goyal.
