Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President and Lok Sabha MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring said that for some time now, FCI workers have been neglected. He alleged that FCI laborers are being exploited by contractors and officials. He stated that before the 2027 Assembly elections, the Congress party’s manifesto will include the demands of FCI workers to stop their exploitation.
He added that if the Congress forms the government, the contract system will be abolished and direct payments will be made to workers’ bank accounts, while labor laws will be strictly implemented. He also said that the current central government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party is framing policies in favor of corporate houses and big contractors, whereas a Congress government would make policies in favor of workers.
Amarinder Singh Raja Warring was addressing the annual conference of the Food Corporation of India Workers Labour Union at Patiala.

Former Patiala Mayor and Congress leader, as well as co-convener of the Rajiv Gandhi Panchayati Raj Organization Punjab, Sanjeev Sharma Bittoo, played an important role in organizing the conference.
He recalled that a similar conference was held in 2016 under Bittoo’s initiative, during which several demands were accepted by Captain Amarinder Singh, but later bureaucracy imposed certain conditions that prevented the exploitation of workers from being fully stopped.
A large number of labor leaders from across Punjab participated in the conference. Besides Raja Warring, Gurkeerat Singh Kotli, Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Kuldeep Singh Vaid, and Lakhbir Singh Lakha were also present.
During the conference, Dhanve Jaina, General Secretary of the Old India FCI Workers Labour Union, presented the key demands of the workers. These mainly included forming works committees to ensure direct payment to workers, abolishing the contract system, and improving pension and healthcare facilities.
While addressing the gathering, Raja Warring assured the workers that these demands would be included in the Congress party’s manifesto in the coming time. He further said that no form of contract system would be allowed in the future and works committees would be formed to ensure direct payments to workers.
He also stated that he would raise the issues of FCI workers in the Lok Sabha.

At the conference, Sanjeev Bittoo thanked all the guests and leaders present and assured that workers’ demands would be strongly placed before the leadership. He reminded that a similar conference was held in Patiala in 2016, but some demands remained unfulfilled at that time.
General Secretary Tanmay Jaina, in his address, said that the rights workers have received in the past were either during Congress governments or through Supreme Court decisions. He expressed hope that this time all legitimate demands of the workers would be fulfilled.
Senior leaders Sonu Sangar and Vinod Arora Kalu were also specially present on the occasion.
