DESGPC Function to Mark Shaheedi Jor Mel

The function organized by the Directorate of Education, SGPC (DESGPC) in the premises of Mata Gujri College on the occasion of three-day Shaheedi Jod Mel to pay homage to the martyrdom of Mata Gujri Ji and Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh, the youngest sons of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji  began here on Monday.

Jathedar Harpal Singh Jalla, Vice President, SGPC , Amritsar inaugurated the function.Dr. Kashmir Singh, Director Principal, Mata Gujri College inspired the students to preserve the rich cultural heritage and said, “Guru Gobind Singh Ji has shown the path of Justice and equality. It is the moral duty of Sikh Community to fight against injustice. These kinds of functions provide platform to connect the people especially the young generation with their great past.”

Elaborating the various perspectives of Sikh history, Jathedar Harpal Singh opined, “Baba Fateh Singh with his elder brother set precedence in history by becoming the youngest known martyrs to sacrifice their life for the principles and the right to practice their religion and their faith without any threat of terror. He said that it is our collective responsibility to protect our cultural values and convey the message of Sri Guru Granth Sahib to our young generation.”

He also released the New Year Calendar of Directorate of Education and Mata Gujri College.

Dr. Jatinder Singh Sidhu, Director Education, SGPC said, “The valiant Sahibzadas faced the Suba Sirhind with unparallel courage. These functions were of great use to make the students aware about their culture besides providing them a platform to exhibit their skills.” He motivated the young generation to follow the principles of Sikhism.

Vaar Gayan, Kavita, Kaveshri, Religious Play, Dastarbandi, Religious Essay, Painting, Shabad Gayan, Gatka Competitions were organized during the function. A blood donation camp was also organised. Students of SGPC educational institutions participated in these competitions with great enthusiasm.

Avtar Singh, Secretary, Education inspired the students to follow the principles of Sikh Philosophy.
