DGP, BMC officials,home secretaries, secretaries of many states removed on ECI’s direction

As per reports, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has ordered the removal of home secretaries in six states, including Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on Monday.
The ECI has also removed the director general of police (DGP) of West Bengal due to prior removal from active election management duties during the 2016 Assembly Election and 2019 Lok Sabha Elections.
The ECI, under CEC Rajiv Kumar, also ordered the removal of Brihanmumbai municipal commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal, along with additional commissioners and deputy commissioners.
Additionally, the secretaries of the general administrative department in Mizoram and Himachal Pradesh have also been relieved of their duties.
The officials who have been removed in theses seven states were found to be holding dual charges in the office of chief minister in respective states which may potentially compromise or be seen to be compromising the fairness required during the electoral process, epically in matters relating to law and order, deployment of forces etc.
