A distinguished lecture on “Leading with Impact: Unveiling Essential Leadership Attributes” was organised by Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Patiala (JGND PSOU) on 28 March2024. Lt. Gen. (Dr.) J.S. Cheema, Vice-Chancellor, Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University (MBSPSU), Patiala was the chief guest on the occasion. Prof. Karamjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, JGND PSOU, welcomed the guests.

He observed “A leader should always be a good human being. True leader often contemplates on improving his qualities.” “In his journey of continuous learning and growth, a great leader thrives by embracing challenges, seeking feedback, nurturing connections and cultivating understanding,” said Prof. Karamjeet Singh.

In his lecture Lt. Gen. Dr. J.S. Cheema said, “A good leader must resist temptation and uphold moral values. He must inspire and align people to a long term vision. Leader with professional competence builds the team and shows the way.” He talked about important traits of good leaders. He shared his experiences with the audience. During interaction with students and faculty, Lt. Gen. Dr. J.S. Cheema emphasized on the importance of ‘knowing the men’ in a team. He also focused on the significance of developing one’s capacities and knowing one’s ignorance to effectively lead the team.

Earlier, while introducing the objective of distinguished lecture Prof. Gurdip Singh Batra expanded on the need to be adept at planning, delegating and problem solving for exceptional leadership. “Impactful leaders are meeting new challenges in technologically advanced societies,” he said. Prof. Manjit Singh, Registrar, focussed on the efficacy of teacher’s instruction in moulding students and making them impactful leaders. He extended the vote of thanks.
