Divisional Commissioner Patiala’s conspicuous absence from CM’s functions is the talk of the town

“The divisional commissioners, are a necessary part of the governmental machinery. The commissioner is a regional coordinator. It is only an officer who is intimately aware of the problems of the region and the day-to-day working of different governmental departments at the regional and district levels. So, the divisional commissioner has to be present at chief minister’s function, as per protocol. If the chief minister comes to district headquarter where the divisional commissioner sits, the officer is bound to be present at the function. But, if the chief minister is coming or going to other than the divisional commisisoner’s headquarter area, district , its upto the officer to go or not the go” said SR Ladhar, retired IAS and former divisional commissioner Patiala , Jalandhar division on the regular absence of Patiala divisional commissioner Arun Sekhri, IAS from the chief minister Bhagwant Mann’s function in Patiala or areas under the Patiala division.
Even today, chief minister Bhagwant Mann had laid the foundation stone of the Tehsil complexes at Dirba and Cheema in Sangrur district. IG Patiala Mukhwinder Singh Chinna attended the function where as Divisional commissioner Patiala Arun Sekhri once again remains conspicuous by his absence.
“Last week , the chief minister had come to Patiala to inaugurate ultra modern bus stand, earlier came to inaugurate the upgradation of Govt Rajindra Hospital emergency wing, at foundation day of Punjabi University, award ceremony at govt college for girls, state level first parents teachers meeting (PTM) at Govt school, Model Town and on other occasions. But, divisional commissioner Patiala Arun Sekhri remained conspicuous by his absence and had not attended any State level function or the functions held at Patiala district headquarters. On the other hand inspector general of police Patiala range Mukhwinder Singh Chinna is attending all the functions, as per the protocol” said an officer on the condition of anonymity.
