DM Suicide Case: Amit Shah’s CBI offer puts ball in Punjab MPs’ court, consensus elusive

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced in Parliament that the DM Punjab State Warehousing Corporation (PSWC) official Gagandeep Singh Bhullar suicide case can be handed over to the CBI for investigation.
Today, Congress MP from Amritsar, Gurjit Singh Aujla, raised the issue during the ongoing Parliament session. While speaking, he urged Amit Shah to listen to his plea. Shah immediately responded that he is ready to transfer the case to the CBI if all MPs from Punjab submit a written request.
With this move, Shah has effectively shifted the responsibility onto Punjab MPs. However, achieving consensus appears difficult, as Punjab has 13 Lok Sabha MPs—7 from Congress, 3 from AAP, 1 from Shiromani Akali Dal, and 2 Independents.
While Congress and Akali Dal MPs may agree in writing, AAP MPs are unlikely to support a CBI inquiry since the accused, Laljit Singh Bhullar, is an AAP MLA and currently (as per reports, his resignation is not accepted) serves as Transport and Prisons Minister in the Punjab government.
One Independent MP, Amritpal Singh, is currently in jail, and the other Independent MP may or may not give consent.
So, the situation is dicey at this point, and the chances of a CBI inquiry are very bleak.
