Docs, para medical pedal to mark World Earth Day

As many as 100 doctors and para medical staff from Ivy Hospital, Mohali participated in a cycle rally – ride to work day- to mark World Earth Day on Monday morning.
The rally was flagged-off by Arjun Award winner and SP Ropar Headquarter Jagjit Singh Jallah & Ivy Hospital’s Facility Director, Dr. Aruna Bhoy. It commenced from Ivy and then moved to SCL, Homeland Height, Niper road, PCL Chowk and then back to Ivy Hospital.
The rally was organized to encourage office goers and people to switch to eco-friendly mode of transport to reduce the dependence on vehicles.
Dr. Sunina Bansal, Sr. Consultant Obs & Gynae and a founder member of Cyclegiri Group who actively advocates cycling culture in tricity was also presented during occasion.
Among others, kidney transplant surgeon Dr Avinash, onco surgeon Dr Vijay, GI surgeon Dr Manmohan Bedi with others ride cycle in support of cause.
Speaking during occasion, Dr. Kanwaldeep, Medical Director, Ivy Group of Hospitals said that cycling offers an eco-friendly and inexpensive mobility option for cities like us. It complements public transport and gives rise to local economic development, she maintained.
Moreover cycling is our traditional mode of transport, which, if promoted in the modern era in a big way, can help clean the environment and conserve our valuable natural resources and energies, she remarked.
“On personal front, cycling results in increased access and mobility, and workout for physical fitness and better health. On the societal front, it offers a huge potential for sustainable environment and reduces emission of greenhouse gases. It is cost-effective from financial perspectives too,” she explained.
Dr Aruna Bhoy, said that to encourage in-house practice we have organized ‘best electricity saving and recycle as well as plastic free hospital idea and suggestion competition among nurses, technicians and other staffs.
Meanwhile during occasion, in line with this year Earth Day theme, “Protect our Species”, the Gurtej Singh, Chairman IVY Group of Hospitals along with doctors also planted saplings in and around of hospital’s premises. He shared that Ivy name was derived from ever green plant IVY which can grow in hardest environment representing ever green, is perennials life & immortality.
