Dr. DN Kotnis Acupuncture Hospital Celebrates 86th Anniversary of Indian Medical Mission to China

Dr. DN Kotnis Acupuncture Hospital in Salem Tabri, Ludhiana, proudly celebrated the 86th anniversary of the Indian Medical Mission to China (1938-1942). In honor of this mission and Dr. Kotnis’s enduring legacy, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in India generously donated an ambulance to the hospital to promote acupuncture across India.
Dr. Inderjit Singh, Director of the hospital, emphasized that Dr. Kotnis’s contributions to humanity will never be forgotten. The ceremony was presided over by Mr. Wang Xinming, Minister Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy, accompanied by his team. The event was further honored by the presence of Chaudhary Madan Lal Bagga, MLA of North Ludhiana, who participated in the ambulance donation ceremony.
Wang Xinming Minister of Embassy said,The Indian Medical Mission to China took place during the Second Sino-Japanese War (1938-1942),when India sent a team of 5 medical professionals to support the Chinese people suffering from the war’s devastation. Dr. Dwarkanath Kotnis, a key figure in this mission, became renowned for his dedication and compassion, providing essential medical care in difficult conditions. The mission not only addressed urgent health needs but also fostered strong ties between India and China, highlighting the spirit of solidarity and humanitarian aid during a critical time in history. Dr. Kotnis’s legacy continues to be honored in both countries as a symbol of friendship and sacrifice. Even after 86 years, China and its officials hold Dr. Kotnis in high regard, and this respect will last a lifetime.
Iqbal Singh Gill IPS, G. Secretary of hospital shared, As part of the celebrations, over ten acupuncture specialists from across India provided their services during a two-day free acupuncture camp held on September 20-21, 2024. More than 210 patients benefited from this initiative.
