The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from the Patiala Lok Sabha seat on Saturday slammed the Punjab government for failing to provide a smooth flow of electricity to the people. She said, the scorching heat is wreaking havoc, and power cuts, in a situation where temperature is exceeding 45 degrees Celsius, have made it difficult for people to even stay inside their homes.
The BJP candidate from Patiala Lok Sabha seat Preneet Kaur strongly condemned the unannounced power cuts, recalling her election tour to several villages in the Nabha and Samana areas on Saturday where she saw people suffering due to power cuts.
“The Aam Aadmi Party, which had promised to provide 300 units of free electricity per month, has failed in meeting the electricity demand. At present, the gap between the demand and supply of electricity has been increasing in Punjab and the state government is trying to hide its wrong policies through power cuts,” said Preneet Kaur, adding that that while it has become difficult for people to stay at home due to power cuts, all small and big industries across the district are forced to bear huge financial losses.
She further said, “The Punjab government could not make the preparations it should have done in advance regarding the heatwave, and today the present government is trying to hide its mistakes by power cuts.” She also said each area of the district is facing power cuts today and the Punjab government should immediately clarify its position in this regard.
The BJP leader Preneet Kaur also said that given the rising temperature, the electricity demand in Punjab has crossed 14 thousand MW.
“The Punjab government, which has failed to meet the electricity demands, is now pretending to supply power through power cuts. The number of unannounced cuts has been increased to two to three times a day, calling it maintenance and an attempt is being made to keep people in the dark. For the first time in the history of Punjab, the state government failed to meet the demand for electricity in May itself. In the coming days, the demand for electricity from the agriculture sector for the paddy season will also start increasing and, in such a situation, the problem of electricity supply in Punjab will become bigger, due to which every Punjabi will have to bear the brunt,” she said.
Due to weak policies of government, the gap between demand and supply of electricity in Punjab has increased- Preneet Kaur, while addressing the election rally in the Nabha areas, said that the record of PSPCL is a witness that the graph of electricity demand has been continuously increasing for the last three months, while the Punjab government, given the increasing electricity demand, has not considered necessary steps to make any proper arrangements. “Given the possibility that the incompetence of the Punjab government will force the industry sector to face power cuts in the coming days, the fear of huge financial losses has already started increasing among the industrialists of Punjab,” she concluded.
