ECI issues clarification on preparation of electoral roll for conduct of election

Today, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has written a letter to all the CEO’s of state / UT, issues clarification on preparation of electoral roll for conduct of election – Disposal of advance application w.r.t. 01.04.2024 as the qualifying date.
As per ECI, for the conduct of an election, the last finally published electoral roll updated till the last date of making nominations shall be used. Accordingly, for the Constituencies in phase-1 elections, as the last date of making nomination is 27.03.2024/28.03.2024, an updated electoral roll for conduct of election will be prepared w.r.t. 01.01.2024 as the qualifying date and shall be finalized on the last date of making nominations.
It further added that for rest of the phases, where last date of making nominations falls after 1st April, 2024, the electoral roll for conduct of election shall be prepared w.r.t. 01.04.2024 as the qualifying date.
However, as the last date of making nominations for 2nd phase of elections is 4th April, 2024, all the advance applications w.r.t. 01.04.2024 and all claims for additions w.r.t previous qualifying date, received till 25th March, 2024, shall be disposed off before 4th April, 2024 and electoral roll shall be updated and finalized on 4th April 2024 for use in the Election.
