Electricity employees across nation including Punjab to protest against Privatisation – AIPEF

Power sector workers will hold nationwide lunch hour demonstrations at work places tomorrow on May 29 against privatisation policies of the UP government proposal to hand over 42 districts electricity supply distribution to the private sector, said All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) .
On the call of National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees & Engineers (NCCOEEE) Power Employees & Engineers across the country will hold protest demonstrations against undemocratic executive orders of UP Power corporations amending Personnel Regulations to take any action without enquiry on UP Electricity Employees and Engineers who are agitating for last 182 days against Privatisation of DISCOMs. ,said Rathnakar Rao Secretary General All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF).
The lunch hour protests shall be held in Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttrakhand, Himachal Pardesh , Haryana and Uttar Pradesh in the northern region, said V K Gupta, media advisor.
Shailendra Dubey Convener The Vidyut Karmachari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti said that since tenders for privatisation have not been issued yet, they have decided to defer their indefinite work boycott that was to begin from May 29. Instead, they will now join a nationwide protest tomorrow , while continuing their non-cooperation movement with the power corporation management. He said that if any tender was issued for privatisation,27 lakh power employees across various states, including Uttar Pradesh, would take to the streets in protest.

The next meeting of NCCOEEE will be held on 9th June at New Delhi to decide the further course of action. Power engineers‘ Association across the country urges the Uttar Pradesh government to reconsider their decision to privatize the power sector, highlighting past failures and the risk of job losses. Workers and employees of the various Discoms will protest tomorrow against the privatization of the Uttar Pradesh power departments.
