Events Dedicated to the Sacred Martyrdom of Sahibzadas and Mata Gujri Ji at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University

The University School of Law at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, organized a series of events to honor the supreme sacrifices of the Sahibzadas and Mata Gujri Ji. These activities embodied the University’s commitment to justice, interfaith harmony, and human rights awareness.
A Legal Literacy Camp was held in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority, Fatehgarh Sahib, during the Shaheedi Sabha (December 25-27, 2024). The camp aimed to raise awareness about legal rights and responsibilities, focusing on fundamental rights, free legal aid, and constitutional remedies. Interactive discussions and the distribution of legal literature enhanced its inclusivity.
Prof. (Dr.) Amita Kaushal, Head of the Department remarked that Justice begins with awareness and this camp empowered individuals to uphold their rights and the rule of law. Dr. Navneet Kaur, Department In-charge, added that Organizing this camp during the Shaheedi Sabha is a way of serving society by promoting legal knowledge as a tool for empowerment.
A two-day workshop on “Interfaith Dialogue viz-a-viz Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions” was conducted in partnership with NRC Foundation and Rubaroo. The workshop aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 16 and fostered respect and understanding among diverse faiths. Assistant Professor Amritpal Singh, the event coordinator, highlighted that interfaith dialogues build bridges of mutual respect and understanding, showcasing the collective commitment to peace and justice.

The Department also commemorated International Human Rights Day with a guest lecture on the theme “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now.” Prof. (Dr.) Monika Ahuja from Punjabi University, Patiala, spoke on the relevance of human rights, judicial interpretation, and landmark case laws. Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. (Dr.) Prit Pal Singh appreciated the department and highlighted that human rights remain a pertinent topic amidst global conflicts. Awareness of these rights is crucial in fostering peace and equality.
