“In Punjab, BJP is going to play an active role of opposition in the state as the main official opposition party in the state Congress has already made alliance with AAP” said Sunil Jakhar, the newly appointed BJP’s Punjab president.
On congress and aam aadmi party alliance at national level Jakhar said “ local congress party leaders , MLAs are trying to settle their corruption cases and are trying to got themselves inducted in the Punjab cabinet. The job of opposition has now solely fallen upon the BJP as Congress has laid down its knees and completely surrendered to the Aam Aadmi Party even though it is the main opposition party in Punjab Vidhan Sabha. But we will hold the Aam Aadmi Party accountable for its complete failure.”
Today, Jakhar was in Patiala to access the loss caused by the floods in Patiala district. He along with Jai Inder Kaur visited the flood affected villages Bolarh, Bolarhiyan and Rathiyan of Patiala.
Later Jakhar addressed a press conference along with Jai Inder Kaur, Balbir Sidhu at New Moti Bagh Palace. Core BJP party leaders of Patiala remained conspicuous by their absence. Supporters of Jai Inder remained with her.
Facing opposition in his own party, Sunil Jakhar claims to play opposition role in Punjab’s politics. At this time Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jhakar is touring all the 13 Lok Sabha constituencies in Punjab, ex-state head and MLA Ashwani Sharma is also conspicuous by his absence. BJP has two MLAs in the present Punjab vidhan sabha and Ashwani Sharma is one of them.
Newly appointed saffron party state president Sunil Jakhar has once targeted his guns towards Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann for not utilizing the Rs 218.40 crore special grants given to Punjab for flood relief measure.
The union government had given Rs 7,532 crore to 22 state governments. The grant was granted by Ministry of Home Affairs on July 10,2023. Since then Jakhar is demanding the details where Rs 218.40 crore were spent by the state chief minister Bhagwant Mann.
Jakhar said the central govt has released the funds without even taking the previous year’s Utilisation Certificate (UC) of disaster management fund from the state government.
He said Bhagwant Mann led Punjab government is purely responsible for these floods in the state and said it was gross negligence and inefficiency at the part of the Punjab government due to which people in the state had to suffer loss of life and property.
He added the state govt fails to handle the flood situation properly. Its MLAs are busy in photo shootouts.
Whereas , the chief minister had already said “Punjab will send to the Centre an estimate of losses caused by the floods in the state, but will not beg for any financial package.” Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had made this statement on July 14,2023 while he was in Patiala to access the loss of damage caused by floods.
