Prof. Pankaj Mohindru, a renowned social worker of Patiala organized an event to express solidarity for the protesting farmers. It was a well-managed protest and around 500 persons from all walks of life visited the function. It is said by him that the presence of such a large gathering of people in the protest specifies that the urban inhabitants of India have also understood now that the farmers camping at Delhi’s borders are not protesting for themselves only, but in fact to save the economy of the country.

Prof. Pankaj Mohindru added in his statement to the press that these three controversial laws were passed in a haste amid Covid19 lockdown. He questioned, why the people in power did not think of consulting with the farmers and their respective unions before passing these bills which are indeed beneficial only to the corporate community. This has forced the farmers to come on the streets with a grand scale protest. He made a strong appeal to the Union government these three new laws should be withdrawn immediately to maintain law and order in the country before 26th January 2021, when the nation would be celebrating its 72nd Republic day.

He further added that it seems the concern of farmers regarding Minimum Support Price (MSP) is very much genuine but as such, there is no commitment by the government on this issue till now. This confirms that there is a connivance of corporates and the present union government on the issue of MSP and they may not be able to give a higher price than the MSP.

Prof. Pankaj Mohindru told the press in the end that people must understand that the farmer community could suffer at the start but the consumers of Agro products would face sharp inflation in the long run if these controversial ordinances are not repealed at this stage. According to him, the urban population needs to understand rapidly that this is a critical stage in our history and the farmers need the support of everyone to save the nation.
