Today once again Supreme Court said that the Delhi Police should take a call on whether or not protesting farmers could hold tractor or vehicle marches on Republic Day in the national capital. The government could not ask the court to decide on issues concerning law and order.
The supreme court has also asked the Delhi police to take back their petition, filed in the apex court, regarding the farmers tractor rally. The government wanted the court to pass an injunction order to restrain farmers from holding rallies to “disrupt” Republic Day celebrations in Delhi.
The apex court said “we will not interfere in this issue. Delhi police have to decide at its own, to grant the permission to hold the rally or to not to allow them hold the rally. Entry into Delhi is a law and order issue. Who should be allowed entry and on what conditions are all determined by the police. We cannot be the authority to decide it,”
Gurnam Singh Chaduni of Bharatiya Kisan Union had already said that “we’ve told them that we’ll hold tractor march at Ring Road, they should accept it. We’ll have further info after meet but they won’t face any disturbance due to it.”
Farmer’s tractor rally-Delhi police got shock from supreme court. Earlier on January 12, the top court had stayed the implementation of the contentious new farm laws till further orders and constituted the four-member committee to make recommendations to resolve the impasse over them between the Centre and farmers’ unions protesting at Delhi borders.
