Punjab government has promoted 8 additional director general of police (ADGPs) of 1994 batch as DGPs .

The officers waited for more than seven months to get their promotion orders as they were entitled to get promoted from January ,2024

As per set procedure, the state home department had initiated the process of promoting eight ADGPs of the 1994 batch to the rank of DGP in November 2023 so that they can be promoted from January 2024.But, the state chief secretary KAP Sinha, IAS had raised objections for creating more posts of DGPs and making Punjab Police top brass heavy, so the process was stalled at that time

Now, after seven months of wait, these 1994 IPS officers Dr Naresh Kumar, Ram Singh, SS Srivastava, V Neerja, Amardeep Singh Rai, Parveen Kumar Sinha, B Chandra Sekhar and Anita Punj are promoted as DGPs

As per available information, IPS officers have a vertical tenure-based promotion system in accordance with IPS cadre rules. Cadre management, however, varies from state to state. Anyone who has served 30, 25 and 18 years in service is eligible to become a DGP, ADGP and IG, respectively, in Punjab.
