Finally, after two years IKG-PTU to have regular VC; governor cleared the name of new VC

After almost a gap of over two years, IK Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU), Kapurthala, will have a new Vice-Chancellor as the governor has approved the name of Dr Sushil Kumar.
Dr. Susheel Mittal is the 19th VC and has been appointed for a period of three years, with effect from the date of his assumption of office.
Dr. Mittal did his Doctorate in Chemistry from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, India in 1986. He is a Chartered Chemist (CChem), Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) London (UK) and a Member of the Advisory Board/Editorial Board of many international and national journals of repute.
Presently, he is serving as Vice-Chancellor of SBS State University, Gurdaspur (since November 2021) while earlier, he served at Thapar Institute of Engg and Technology since 1989 and held positions like, Deputy Director, Dean (Research & Sponsored Projects), Head of School of Chemistry.
He has published more than 135 research papers in international and national refereed journals. He has supervised 25 Phd students, 10 ME/MTech (Env Engg) and 28 MSc (Chemistry) students. Dr. Mittal has completed 12 sponsored research projects and including from Royal Academy of Engg, UK.
It was since April 2021, the Vice Chancellor post has been lying vacant. Prof Dr Ajay Kumar Sharma was the last regular VC of the IKGPTU, Kapurthala. He remained VC from from 27.03.2018 to 26.08.21. After Prof Ajay K Sharma 5 IAS officers were on additional charge Ramesh Kumar Ganta, Raj Kamal Chaudhary, Vikas Garg, Rahul Bhandari and Neelkanth Avhad. Last was 18th Vice Chancellor Nilkanth S Avhad from 22.11.22 as additional charge.
Since then the Secretary technical education had been holding the additional charge of state’s first technical university’s VC, IKGPTU, Kapurthala.
Finally, after two years IKG-PTU to have regular VC; governor cleared the name of new VC. As per available information, the search committee has given approval to three shortlisted candidates Harminder Bains, Director of the Panjab University regional campus, Hoshiarpur, Siby John, Deputy Director, Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh and , Sushil Mittal, Vice-Chancellor of Beant Singh State University, Gurdaspur.
The search committee comprised IAS officer KAP Sinha, GNDU VC Jaspal Singh Sandhu and Chief Secretary VK Janjua, who is the Chairman of the committee. A nominee of the University Grants Commission (UGC) is also a member of the committee.
